Sliders

Oh wow, where have I been? Well, nowhere really....just digging out of the mess of moving. Two PODS are now unpacked but we are still inundated with unpacked boxes.
I'm anticipating it will take about a month to a month in a half before things are normal again around here. I really don't have a lot of available computer time. Did I mention, there are things EVERYWHERE trying to find a home. It's going to take time so bare with me.
We are eating though, but very simple, quick and easy meals. It's difficult to cook when there are things all over every inch of available counter space. We have also enjoyed a lot of meals outside as the weather here is perfect for outdoor feasting. It has been a beautiful 75-80 degrees and breezy. I don't miss the miserable California heat one bit.
So what have we been eating over here....Sliders! When I saw these over at Big Red Kitchen, I knew they would come in handy as they are so easy and let's not mention my family loves them. Loves them. I have made them several times already and they always hit the spot.
They are also perfect for Fourth of July, especially if you don't have a grill or don't want to use one.
Let's make them together...

Here's what you will need: Ground chuck (80/20), sliced cheese, seasoning salt, dried minced onion, sliced dill pickles and dinner rolls.

Sprinkle dried minced onion on the bottom of a 9 x 13 or 10 x 15 pan. Use as much as you like.

Press ground chuck into pan, on top of onions until it completely covers the bottom. Use two pounds of ground chuck if you are using a 9 x 13 pan or 2-1/2 pounds of ground chuck if you are using a 10 x 15 pan. Sprinkle the meat with seasoning salt.
Place in a 400 degree oven for 25 minutes. (Make sure you use an 80/20 mixture of ground beef, otherwise your burgers will be dry.)

The meat will shrink in the oven. After 25 minutes remove and cover with six slices of cheese. Place meat back in the oven for two minutes until the cheese is melted.

With a pizza cutter or a knife, slice the meat into as many square pieces as you have rolls.

Place the meat in between the bun with some of the onion and pop on a few dill pickles. You are ready to serve.

These disappear quick.

We'll be having these again soon.

Hi Cathy! These look fantastic. My BIL makes something so similiar, we call them white castle burgers. Love them and they are delicious and fun to make. Your photos bring back memories of the yumminess!!

Ya know, we might just do these for the 4th! It's been raining non-stop up here in Maine for almost 2 months now and no doubt, it's going to rain on the 4th!
The sliders look almost sinfully easy to make. I mean, seriously!

I won't even tell you have many times I have made these since Robin posted them. They are soooo good! Have a happy 4th in your new home!

Moving is wonderful, but that packing up and unpacking is such work! Now that you are home, enjoy the process of making a house, your home.
Love the sliders, thanks. They will be fun to enjoy. Lots of "little" food is a great 4oJ idea.

Delicious looking sliders - definitely a perfect appetizer for the 4th!

Oh My Goodness those look delectable! I may have to make these!
Glad your weather is very cooperative and good luck in getting everything unpacked

LOL! "Miserable California heat!" We visited that area of California last August. August! Dh and I couldn't get over how lovely the weather was. It was like paradise. Then we had to come back home to Kansas. Have you ever experienced August in Kansas? We love Kansas, but the California weather is just one thing that had us seriously considering a move to somewhere way too expensive with way too many people. I'm glad you're getting settled in though. These sliders look great and so easy.

Mmmmmmmmmmm. As an East Coaster, I can tell you that those look just like the original sliders - White Castle. White Castle is a highly polarizing burger . . . you either love them or you hate them. I have MAD LOVE for them, though I try not to have them more than a couple of times a year.
Awesome!

For a twist, use Hawaiian Rolls. That's what I've always done with sliders in my house.

Hey Noble Pig! Glad to see that you're still alive out there and still cooking up a storm. These photos are beautiful. I'd totally eat those little guys if I wasn't a vegetable-tarian!

Hi Cathy - I'm happy to see that you are settled in enough to be using your kitchen. Hope the worst is over and you are enjoying your new home.

I've been thinking about you and knowing you're up to the ceiling in boxes. I've got to start de-junking NOW as we'll be putting our house up for sell come next early spring. Sigh!
The burgers look awesome and perfect for picnicing with company this weekend!

Perfect timing for a holiday weekend. Now if you could just send some of that perfect weather this way...

What a great idea! I always thought that you had to make individual small patties for the sliders. This makes it SO much easier. I'll have to do this for my son and all his buddies after a day at the beach. I also saw that they have special buns for sliders, but I'm sure they aren't any different than the rolls.
Thanks! And, glad to hear you're making a little progress!

That is brilliant! I would have never ever ever thought of cooking sliders that way! Easy and delicious. What more could you ask for?

Thank you for just giving me my 4th of July recipe!! I know my kids will love these!
I'm surprised you're able to cook at all given all the moving and unpacking. I'll be doing the same in a couple of months--I'mm probably need some tips from you!!

Hey glad you liked them! Thanks for the link. I have made these so many times since I posted them and they are always a hit! I hate unpacking from a big move. I often open a box and think why do I even keep these things!

What a neat way to make sliders! We always make individual patties, but this looks much easier and so tasty.
Good luck with the unpacking!

I am AMAZED and so pleased that you are still posting recipes while in the throes of unpacking. You go girl!! Also failed to comment on the beautiful picture of the fuschia in your last post. If not a chef, you definitely have a bright future as a photographer!!

welcome back, cathy--your food porn has been missed, but you've returned in grand style. these sliders look super, but my mouse keeps traveling back to the shots with gooey melted cheese. scrumptious.

Yummy. My kids might actually enjoy meat this way. Glad to hear you're slowly but surely settling in. You left just in time, the heat is kicking into gear for real now.

112 on Sunday my friend - you left just in time!! The sliders look yummy....something even I could pull off! And since I'm really getting into cooking mode, I'm putting these at the top of the list for next week's menu. You would be proud of me!

that is so clever, instead of cooking a million tiny burgers, cook all the meat at once and then cut it! Awesome, seriously, you never cease to amaze me, congrats on the new home and good luck!

And I would only need about a hundred to feed my hungry horde! They look great!

Cathy, I think you've recreated White Castles. Now where are the shots? I'm glad you are starting to settle in. Enjoy the weekend.

It could be my obsession with all things "mini," but I SWEAR sliders taste better than their grown-up counterparts. could it be true??

Are you serious?! You are brilliant! Wow...I sure wish we ate meat much around here cause there were days in the past with the son - when a teenager - where I could have used such a straightforward and easy recipe! I am passing this along to others...terrific!

It's so funny, I went to a Greek restaurant yesterday, and had slider for one of the appetizer. I asked what's slider? The waiter explained it's grounds lamb. So I ordered, and came with little buns like yours. So, I thought this must be Greek version of burger. Good to know. Yours look much better then that fancy Greek restaurant I visited yesterday!

You're back! And with something really, really clever! Woot woot!

Delish. I am ALL over plenty of pickles on a pinkish burger.
Plus, they're so petite...I could eat LOTS!
He-Twin is all about the sliders when they're on a menu...maybe I'll put 'em on ours!

I love this post! My family loves the little bugers that are so popular right now, and this is such a great (easy!) way to make them. I, too, am in the horrible process of trying to unpack. We are so sick of eating out but my kitchen is a wreck. These look so easy I bet I can pull them off even with the mess! Thanks!

These are the perfect size! I love making little burgers but I've never prepared them on a baking sheet. I would need a little bit smaller one since there are only four of us. Pickle slices on burgers can't be beat!
